When the early Zionists began to return to the Jewish homeland, they revived the ancient Hebrew language, previously used only in prayer. The initiator of this revival was Eliezer Ben-Yehuda. He and his colleagues created words for modern, everyday objects not found in ancient Hebrew. Today, people all over the world speak the language.
