Ella Chaimi, the widow of the late Tal Chaimi of Kibbutz Nir Yitzchak, delivered a baby boy at Beilinson Hospital, one of Israel’s largest medical centers. Chaimi’s 41-year-old husband was kidnapped while fighting as part of the fast-response team to protect his kibbutz on October 7 from the Palestinian attack. He was taken into Gaza by Hamas, where he was murdered. His body has been held in Gaza for seven months.

This is the couple’s fourth child.

“This birth is filled with mixed emotions as I welcome into the world our child who brings with him lots of joy while also remembering Tal who was a wonderful husband and father,” said Ella Chaimi. “I wish he was here with us right now.”

“Every labor and delivery is special but this one was even more so as this baby brings joy to a family who has suffered so much tragedy,” said Idit Engel, a midwife at Beilinson Hospital. “Ella and her family have been through devastation and I hope that this baby brings them much joy.”

“I have known Ella for many years and have cared for her during her previous pregnancies, I know her and her family well having previously worked in the Gaza envelope and my heart breaks for what they have gone through,” said Beilinson’s Women’s Hospital Prof. Arnono Weisnizer. “Their family has been through dark times and the birth of this baby is a light for them and for the people of Israel.”

As one of Israel’s largest and most prominent medical centers, Beilinson leads the charge in implementing new innovative treatments while maintaining the highest standards of quality medical and nursing care. Since 1936, Beilinson Hospital in Petach Tikvah has grown to serve more than 500,000 patients annually. The 1,300-bed hospital in Central Israel, staffed by a team of 4,500 medical and support professionals, has 37 operating rooms, performs over 70-percent of all organ transplants in Israel, and welcomes more than 9,000 babies into the world through its robust labor and delivery department.
