Watching the tiny country of Ukraine being attacked by Russia is scary. Watching the whole world allow this country to fight by themselves creates so many thoughts, and clearly foremost among them as a Zionist, as one who loves the State of Israel is the realization that Israel, and Israel alone needs to remain independent and solely in charge of her own security.
Some quotes from different leaders:
“Israel itself is the strongest guarantee against another Holocaust,” Golda Meir (How true this is –the Ukrainians alone are fighting).
“The people of Israel have lived 3,700 years without a memorandum of understanding with America and will continue to live without it another 3,700 years,” Menachem Begin. So sad to say, but so true. Now, more than ever Israel must realize it is at it alone. Just as the Ukrainians have and did.
“Our hope – the two-thousand-year-old hope – will not be lost:
To be a free people in our land, The land of Zion and Jerusalem,” Naphtali Herz Imber
“In Israel, in order to be a realist, you must believe in miracles,” David Ben-Gurion
“There is no justice, no law, and no God in heaven, only a single law which decides and supersedes all-[Jewish] settlement [of the land],” Ze’ev Jabotinsky. And as Jabotinsky added, “We hold that Zionism is moral and just. And since it is moral and just, justice must be done, no matter whether Joseph or Simon or Ivan or Achmet agree with it or not.”
Israel – and Israel alone – must determine what is best for the Jewish state.
“If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel,’” Benjamin Netanyahu. This sign “If The Ukrainians put down their weapons today, there would be no more Ukraine. If the Russians put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence.” The “moral equivalency” is a false narrative. One side is to blame.
“If you will, it is no legend.” Theodor Herzl, “Altneuland,” 1902.
Israel is balancing a lot with this conflict – there are interests in both Ukraine and Russia. A battle against Putin’s evil, but realizing sensitivity with Syria in the North. Realizing there’s Jews on both sides of this conflict. This War is the most conflict we have seen since World War Two – and already there are many lessons to be learned. Israel surely wont forget the lesson that Israel and Israel alone must be counted on for her security.
