In a joint operation with the IDF, Israeli security forces eliminated a high profile, wanted terrorist on Monday south of Nablus in Samaria.

The terrorists, who has been named by Arab sources as Zakaria al-Akra, was known to have taken part in numerous terror activities against Israel.

According to reports, al-Akra was part of several shooting attacks on IDF forces stationed near Nablus.

IDF forces surrounded al-Akra’s home at which point he barricaded himself inside and refused to surrender peacefully.

As forces were attempting to convince the terrorist to leave his home, al-Akra suddenly opened fire upon the soldiers. Forces returned fire during which the terrorist was found dead. Weapons were uncovered in his home.

According to Yedioth Aharonot, two combat soldiers were wounded in the exchange of fire.

Al-Akra was a member of Fatah, the party of Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas. The party’s military wing, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, is well known for engaging in terrorist activity against Israel.

This past Sunday, the military wing claimed to have carried out a shooting attack on “a group of Zionists” near Bethlehem. The group also claimed responsibility for a failed shooting attack which took place last Sunday in Samaria.

This past month, Fatah called for the ethnic cleansing of Jews from Israel and declared an “open war” on the Jewish state.

In an unprecedented move, terrorists belonging to the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade took part in rocket attacks against Israel, firing rockets into Israel from Gaza.
