Bibi and Bogie are wrong again.
Prime Minister Netanyahu (Bibi) and Defense Minister Ya’alon (Bogie) have mistakenly delivered the message that the Egyptian-brokered and US-pressured ceasefire will bring long-term quiet to our volatile region and that we should avoid what could be a messy ground war.
Bibi has reinforced that message by firing his Deputy Defense Minister Danny Danon for criticizing the proposed ceasefire, even though virtually everyone here in Israel knows that the war will not be won decisively without sending in the ground troops.
Most of the Cabinet voted for the ceasefire, but guess what?
In a show of Islamic pride, the ceasefire has been rejected by Hamas, which is now making new demands in exchange for their adherence to any negotiated agreement.
They seem to have the fortitude and determination that we should ironically be able to learn from, even though they have learned that very determination from the founding fathers and mothers of Zionism.
The Hamas terrorists apparently have learned well our Talmudic maxim – “Three things are acquired through great suffering – Torah, the Land of Israel, and the World to Come.” The tragedy is that they seem to understand it better than Israel’s current political leadership.
The great Torah sage, the Vilna Gaon, teaches us that one who is willing to sacrifice for the Land of Israel will acquire it completely.
Nobody in Israel wants to see our soldiers killed or wounded, but the nation that is willing to suffer and to sacrifice for its land will win the war.
