The Israeli Air Force targeted five terror sites in the Gaza Strip overnight Thursday as terrorists in the area continue to launch rockets into Israel.
Earlier on Thursday, two rockets were launched into southern Israel, setting off the Red Alert sirens in the region. One of the rockets was intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system near Ashkelon. The second rockets is believed to have exploded in open territory near Sderot.
In a statement, the army said that three concealed rocket launchers in northern Gaza were targeted, as well as a terror activity site in Central Gaza and a weapons storage facility in southern Gaza. Direct hits were confirmed on each site.
“We have repeatedly addressed the consequences facing those who seek to endanger the lives of innocent civilians. The Iron Dome missile defense system’s success does not change the absurd fact that Israelis have been living under continuous threat for multiple years,” IDF spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner stated.
“We shall persist with our determination to combat terror elements and eliminate the pending threat to Israeli lives,” he added.
As Israel enters its eighth day of Operation Brother’s Keeper in the search of kidnapped teens Eyal Yifrach, 19, Naftali Frankel, 16, and Gilad Shaar, 16, by terrorists in Judea, terrorists residing in Gaza have launched 14 rockets against Israel.
On Wednesday night, the IAF carried out a similar operation against Hamas strongholds in the Strip. Overnight Monday, Israeli aircraft conducted a targeted strike on “a weapon manufacturing facility in the northern Gaza Strip and two weapon storage facilities in the central and southern Gaza Strip.”
