Yamas is the Counter Terror Undercover unit, considered to be the most efficient of the Israeli Defence Force’s special units. The unit was founded in the beginning of the 90’s when the Intifada began. Terrorist snipers in the Gaza Strip opened fire on IDF troops stationed near the Israel-Gaza border Wednesday morning. The soldiers, who were near the Israeli community of Kissufim, responded back by firing rounds into the air to warn and scare off the snipers.

The attack took place near the road leading from the Kissufim checkpoint into Gaza. No soliders were injured in the attack.

Last Thursday, a similar incident occurred when snipers out of Gaza targeted IDF civilian workers working near the security fence. No injuries or casualties were reported in the attack but engineering equipment was severely damaged by gunfire.

Israel has seen a major uptick in violence and terrorist related incidents emanating from the Gaza Strips. Since January, terrorists in Gaza have launched over 130 rockets towards Israel as well as carried out shooting attacks like the one on Wednesday morning. The IDF has recognized that the Strip has now become a hotbed of terrorist activity from both Hamas and Islamic Jihad.

In related news, IDF forces discovered while conducting a counter-terrorism operation two pipe bombs that would have been used on Israeli security forces. While arrested a terror suspect in Jenin Tuesday night, IDF soldiers discovered the bombs.

According to Walla!, the bombs were detonated in a controlled explosion. The IDF reported no injuries or damage.

Jenin has always been a haven for terrorists. Three weeks ago, IDF forces raided a home in Jenin that housed senior Hamas and Islamic Jihad operatives. The terrorists were killed in the raid which was followed by a violent mob attacking the Israeli security forces who were carrying out the raid.

As part of the covert IDF operation on Tueday, five terror suspects were arrested throughout Judea and Samaria. The IDF is currently interrogating the suspected terrorists.
