Ariel Sharon, who passed away earlier this month, leaves behind a long and complicated legacy. One of Israel’s most controversial yet well known figures, Sharon was a well decorated general in the Israeli army. As a politician, he was given the nickname of “The Bulldozer.” However, what most people remember about Sharon was his decision to pullout from the Gaza Strip and evacuate Jewish settlements such as Gush Katif.
