Two Israelis were killed and at least three Israelis were injured in a stabbing attack in the Old City of Jerusalem, near the Lion’s Gate.

A family, a 22-year old woman, and a 40-year old man were attacked on their way to pray at the Kotel on Saturday night. The 40-year old father, Aharon Banita Bennett, 21, was fatally wounded and died of his wounds in Shaarei Tzedek Hospital. The 40-year old man, Rabbi Nehemia Lavi, 41, was critically injured, and the 22-year old woman is in serious condition. Their two-year old baby was lightly injured.

Rabbi Lavi, a father of seven children, heard the attack on the Bennett family and ran to help, but was stabbed upon arrival at the scene. The attacker took his gun, using it to shoot at the woman and a nearby crowd of tourists.

The terrorist was identified as 19-year-old Mohannad Shafik Halabi from Al-Bireh near Ramallah in Samaria. The Islamic Jihad group has taken credit for the killing.

On Thursday, a young couple was shot to death in their car near the town of Itamar. Their four children in the car with them were unharmed. A branch of Fatah, which is headed by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, claimed credit for the murders.

On Friday, an Israeli mother and daughter were lightly injured in a rock-throwing attack close to the town of Migdalim, near Hevron. Also on Friday, a border policeman was lightly injured by Arab rock-throwers near the Lion’s Gate in Jerusalem’s Old City.
