It is now being reported that a drone strike last month targeted a drone base belonging to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps in the western city of Kermanshah. According to the Lebanese Al-Mayadeen TV channel, linked to both Hezbollah and Iran, hundreds of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) of various kinds, including attack drones, were destroyed in the strike that required the half-dozen Israeli drones to be launched from Iraqi Kurdistan and fly 1,700km to the target.
Iran has advanced drone technology and arms its allies and proxies in the region. Houthi drone attacks have been used to devastating effect against Saudi Arabia and Iran also provides drones to Hezbollah and Hamas.
According to Al Mayadeen, the destroyed Iranian drones were the reason for Saturday night’s Iranian missile attack that struck near the US consulate in Erbil. Iranian sources claimed that four Israeli officers were killed and seven more injured, four of whom were in a critical condition in the strike against an alleged Mossad training base.
Israel has not responded to the allegations and did not take responsibility.
