More than 2.5 million Israelis live in poverty, including 1.1 million children, reports TOI. According to a new survey, some 932,000 households are currently in a state of economic distress. Among those households, 233,000 joined in 2021 alone, as families struggled with the worst economic side effects of the ongoing Covid restrictions.
According to the report by Latet, households categorized as ‘at-risk’ are not only considered as hovering just over the poverty line but also facing severe hardship. The report classified these households as “poor middle class.”
The report also revealed that 651,900 households in Israel (22.1%) lack basic essentials such as housing, healthcare, education, and food. Therefore they are considered to be living in poverty.
The Colel Chabad organization has come to the rescue for such families, providing food to hungry families throughout Israel.
They do this by distributing gift cards for supermarkets enabling poor Israelis to provide meals for their families. They also deliver food to Israeli families who cannot leave their homes for various reasons, including handicaps, covid restrictions, or psychological trauma.
And although Colel Chabad is dedicated to providing hungry Israeli families with the food they so desperately need, like all charitable organizations, they need funding to execute this holy mission.
That’s why they are now turning to friends of Israel worldwide in an effort to recruit donations to feed Israel’s poor.
Can you help feed a poor Israeli family?
If you can, please do so by donating to Colel Chabad Today.
