Based on a 2020 survey, most kids are exposed to pornography on the internet by age 13, with some as young as seven-years-old. Additionally, 60% of those first encounters are accidental.

It used to be hard to locate pornography. Now it is hard to avoid it.

This alarming data speaks to the importance of parental supervision and the technological challenge of safeguarding children online when parents can’t be there.

While web filters have been around for a while now, the traditional, site-based approach simply can’t keep up with the dynamism of the modern internet. Their outdated technology is no match for today’s sophisticated peddlers of pornography, who pride themselves on their tech-savviness. Most people don’t realize that new porn sites pop up every single hour, and traditional filters simply can’t keep up with the proliferation of harmful content. By the time they update their lists with new sites to block, it is oftentimes too late.

Fortunately, there’s now a new type of internet filter that leverages cutting-edge Israeli technology. Canopy, a Texas-based tech startup, is making waves with its next-generation filtering software. Its patented technology is able to block pornographic material on any website on the internet, even if it was published just a second ago. It can even filter out individual explicit images and videos on otherwise appropriate sites. To do this, the software uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) that can identify nudity and a patented approach to scan Internet traffic in milliseconds.

As a protective measure, parents can download this next-generation software to their children’s smartphones, tablets, and computers. As the child browses the internet, Canopy works in the background to ensure that they are not exposed to pornography.

“The underlying technology was originally developed in Israel and already protects more than two million devices. With the launch of Canopy, we are excited to introduce this game-changing technology to American families,” Canopy CEO Sean Clifford told Israel365 News.

Another distinguishing feature of Canopy’s software is that it has the ability to block nude images on popular sites without blocking the whole site. This means that if there is an inappropriate photo on twitter.com for instance, Canopy can filter out that individual image and still serve the rest of the content – something other leading filters simply can’t do.

Canopy is hands down the most technologically advanced shield against pornography on the internet.

In addition to the porn-blocking capability, Canopy’s software also can detect and help prevent sexting. If users opt-in, Canopy’s software can scan images captured on a smartphone and save them to the memory.  If the artificial intelligence detects nudity in the photo, it flags the image and presents users the option to delete it or send it to the parent for review. It is important to note that this is all done by Canopy’s proprietary AI system, which means that no human even sees the images.

Canopy currently charges their customers $8 dollars per month for three protected devices and $16 dollars per month to cover ten devices.
