An IDF soldier ws guarding the back entrance of the Keren base in the Golan Heights on Thursday night when he identified two men approaching. He began the protocol of stopping suspects when he saw one of the men pull out a gun and point it at him. The soldier heard the gun click but it did not fire. The soldier then shot one bullet in the air but the men continued to approach. He yelled a warning before firing two bullets at their feet. The suspects fled.
The IDF then began searching the area for the suspects, together with trackers and Israel Police. It is believed the suspects intended to steal weapons from the base.
“During the night, an IDF soldier who was stationed at a guardpost identified two suspects approaching an IDF base in northern Israel,” an IDF statement confirmed. “The soldier began the arrest protocol and yelled at the suspects. Afterwards he noticed that one of the suspects was armed and cocking a weapon. Since they did not respond to his calls, the soldier fired into the air and later fired at their lower bodies. The suspects escaped. IDF soldiers and police are searching the area for the suspects.”
