During the Black lives Matter protests that swept across America last summer, many pro-Palestinian organizations made various attempts to appropriate the movement to divert attention to blaming Israel.
Tactics included connecting alleged American police brutality with the training they received in Israel.
This phenomenon of blaming Israel for unrelated popular movements seems to have been dormant since the BLM protests died down but now appears to have reemerged as the 2021 climate conference in Glasgow took place last week.
During protests at the Glasgow conference, members of BDS group ‘Stop the JNF’ held up banners reading ‘Climate Justice, not Ethnic cleansing’ featuring a ‘Palestinian’ flag.
Established in 1901 to buy and develop land in Ottoman Palestine for Jewish settlement, the JNF (Jewish National Fund) is a non-profit organization. By 2007, it owned 13% of the total land in Israel.
‘Stop the JNF’ claims on their website that “The JNF continues to serve as a global fundraiser for Israeli ethnic cleansing, occupation, and apartheid.” Ironically, the JNF is an organization that has planted 240 million trees in Israel since its inception.
Hananya Naftali, a Christian and Israel’s former social media czar posted an image at the climate conference of protestors waving ‘Palestinian’ flags.
Naftali pondered in his Facebook post: ‘Why are people at a climate protest carrying Palestinian flags?’
