On Saturday, President Donald Trump went on a Twitter tirade, accusing former President Barack Obama of tapping his telephone during his campaign, without offering any proof.

Obama’s spokesperson responded in kind, tweeting a denial of Trump’s claim.

It is unclear what prompted the president’s social media tirade, but the New York Times speculated it was based on an article in Breitbart accusing “President Barack Obama’s administration in its last months to undermine Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and, later, his new administration.”
