An airstrike on Friday on the Syrian Mazzeh airbase outside of Damascus , in which several high-ranking Syrian regime military officials were reported killed, has been blamed on Israeli surface-to-surface missiles.

“At 3:00 a.m., the Israeli enemy fired several surface-to-surface missiles from inside occupied territory,” reported Syrian state SANA News. The missiles were allegedly fired from a site near the Kinneret Sea (Galilee).

Al Arabiya, a pan-Arab Saudi owned news agency, reported that several high-ranking military officials from the regime of Syrian President Bashar al Assad were killed in the attack.  The Lebanese al-Meyadeen news reported that the missile strike hit a weapons depot in the base.

Though, as a rule, the IDF does not comment on operations, more than a dozen strikes inside Syria have been attributed to Israel, the most recent in the beginning of December, also striking the Mazzeh base.
