Three Israeli universities have featured prominently on the 2016 QS World University Rankings list ranking more than 900 higher education institutions around the world.

Hebrew University of Jerusalem maintained its position as Israel’s top overall university, with an overall ranking of 148, while Tel Aviv University was named the country’s top research institution, with 97 academic citations per faculty member.

Haifa’s Technion continued a four-year slide, falling from number 183 in 2013 to 213 on this year’s list, as did Ben-Gurion University of the Negev, slipping to 320th place, down from 259 a year ago.

The QS World University Rankings, first compiled in 2004, rates the world’s best-performing higher education institutions, assessing some 4,000 higher education institutions and ranking more than 900.

“We’re delighted that the Hebrew University continues to receive international recognition as a world academic leader,” said Prof. Menahem Ben-Sasson, the President of Hebrew University of Jerusalem. The university was ranked 148th globally last year as well in the QS World University Rankings.

“The University’s academic and research reputation is a direct result of the hard work and commitment to excellence displayed by our faculty members, administrative staff, and students. Our investment in recent years in attracting the best researchers and equipping them with the tools to succeed is paying dividends,” pointed out Ben-Sasson.

Hebrew University’s placement was the latest in a string of accomplishments for the university. In June, HU research scientist, Dr. Yosef Buganim, was honored by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). He was awarded the Boyalife Science & Science Translational Medicine Award in Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine.
