A rocket launched from the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip exploded in the southern city of Sderot on Sunday. The rocket landed in the street, and no injuries or damages were reported.

The citizens of Sderot and surrounding communities were alerted when Red Alarm (Tzeva Adom) sirens suddenly went off on Sunday afternoon. Residents reported hearing an explosion.

Police and IDF forces quickly located the rocket’s impact site in Sderot, a city known as the “Bomb Shelter Capital” of the world because it is so often targeted by projectiles from nearby Gaza. Sderot is located less than a mile from the Hamas enclave, and has been hit by thousands of rockets since the beginning of the Second Intifada in 2000.

Within an hour of the rocket’s explosion, Palestinian media reported that the Israeli Air Force (IAF) had targeted the town of Beit Hanoun in Gaza with airstrikes in retaliation. The IDF confirmed the report.
