Despite several attempts to perpetrate terror attacks, no Israelis were injured over the Sabbath.
During the day, an Israeli was attacked by an Arab with a knife on Shivtei Yisrael Street in Jerusalem, but managed to disarm his attacker after struggling with him. The terrorist escaped.
Saturday morning, 16-year-old Muhammad Zakarnah attempted to stab security guards at a checkpoint near Jenin. Zakarnah circulated among the cars waiting at the checkpoint, selling sweets. He dropped his box of chocolate and charged the guards with a knife but was shot and killed before he could carry out his attack.
A 17-year-old Arab from the village of Yatta, near Hebron, was arrested in Tel Aviv, armed with a screwdriver. He was taken in for questioning and police determined he was a security risk.
Friday afternoon, a family of five was attacked by an Arab with a firebomb while driving near Beit El. A four-year-old girl was moderately injured in the attack, and the other four family members were lightly injured.
Friday morning, a 16-year old Arab stabbed an IDF soldier, wounding him. The soldiers shot and wounded the attacker.
In an attempt to lessen tensions, Israeli officials removed restrictions for Muslim prayer on the Temple Mount for Friday morning prayers. Rioting broke out across Judea and Samaria, most notably in Hebron, Beit Umar, Ramallah and Bethlehem. Rioting also broke out along the Gaza border fence.
Though there were no Israeli casualties from attacks this Sabbath, Chaim Rothman died as a result of wounds he suffered in last November’s attack in a synagogue in Har Nof, Jerusalem.
