Several years back, a large natural-gas field off the coast of Haifa was discovered. The field, named Tamar, is 1,700 meters (5,600 feet) under water and contains an estimated ten trillion cubic feet of natural gas. However, what to do with these new-found resources has also been a bone of contention. (Photo: מכבי424 אהרון כהן/Wikimedia Commons)

Delek Drilling claims it has found significant new evidence of additional natural gas reserves near the offshore Tamar field near Haifa, in the Tamar Southwest field.  This is in addition to earlier discoveries made at and around the same site.  Delek Drilling announced its findings Tuesday.  The original Tamar Southwest field reserve is estimated at 20 billion cubic meters of gas, in addition to the Tamar field reserve, with its estimated 10 trillion cubic meters.

Other partners in the latest drilling finds are Isramco Negev 2, Avner Oil Exploration and Dor Gas Exploration.
