An IDF team that had entered the city of Jenin was met with a mob of stone-throwing Palestinians on Thursday, resulting in the death of one rioter, according to The Times of Israel. Four Hamas members were apprehended in the IDF raid.
An IDF spokesperson said a clash broke out in the village after some 50 Palestinians threw stones at IDF troops, who responded with anti-riot measures. She added that troops fired into the air after feeling their life was in danger and said the army said it was checking into the report that a person was killed. There were no injuries on the Israel side, the army said.
A report in the Ma’an news agency said Ahmed Tazata, 20, was killed during a confrontation with Israel Defense Forces troops at the entrance to the village of Qabatiya, south of Jenin in the northern Judea and Samaria.
Palestinian medics said the man was shot in the chest and died of his wounds, according to Ynet news.
On Tuesday, clashes between Palestinians and troops were reported in two other villages near Jenin after Israeli forces entered.
Separately, the Islamic militant group Hamas says Israel arrested four of its senior members in Ramallah.
Several Palestinians have been killed in fighting with Israeli soldiers seeking to arrest militants in the West Bank in recent months.
