
Israeli security services announced that it had nabbed a terror cell responsible for numerous attacks against Israelis. The report of the arrests was cleared for publication Wednesday afternoon.
In a joint operation, the Shin Bet and Jerusalem District Police arrested several terrorists in the Jerusalem Arab neighborhood of Issawiya. The men are responsible for attacks in the French Hill neighborhood and the Mount Scopus campus of Hebrew University over the last six months.
The report named five members, all under the age of 20. Mufid Muhammad Shafiq, 20; Ibrahim Mohammad Odeah Derbas, 19; Muhammad Kamal Ahed, 19; Lid Dawood Hassan Ilian, 19; and Atta Mohammad Bassam Ilian, 19 – were all nabbed as part of the bust.
According to the report, the cell masterminded several high profile attacks in Jerusalem. In November 2013, members of the cell threw Molotov cocktails at a synagogue on HaHayal street in the French Hill neighborhood. In that same month, they set a police car on fire.
In February 2014, the men threw firebombs at an Israeli residential building in French Hill. Their most recent attack, which took place earlier this month, was when they firebombed a popular nightclub frequented by students in French Hill.
Over the next several days, indictments against the arrested terrorist suspects will be submitted to the Jerusalem District Courts.
