Last week, the holiday of Tu B’shvat was celebrated in Israel (January 16). According to Jewish tradition, there are four “new years” in the calendar: the new year for the world, the new year for kings, the new year for animals and the new year for trees. In the holy city of Hebron, the community came together with the soldiers who risk their lives each day protecting the ancient city to plant new trees and gardens in commemoration of the holiday.

In a few years, these small plants will blossom and flourish into large gardens. These gardens will be enjoyed for years to come by visitors to the city of Hebron.
